Protocol Converter / Gateway from serial interface to MPI
The Deutschmann UNIGATE® Gateway connects devices, such as automation components via their serial interface (RS232, RS485, RS422, SSI) with MPI networks. With it the UNIGATE® takes over the task of a Protocol Converter and converts the different interfaces. Marketable standard protocols, such as Modbus ASCII, Modbus RTU (Master or Slave), RK 3964, RK 3964R, Universal 232, Transparent mode and many more can be set by means of a simple configuration via the PC-tool WINGATE. The UNIGATE® CL MPI is exceptionally flexible and powerful because of its Script ability and it is suitable for requirements that go beyond the standard protocols or for the conversion of your own protocols. This Script is generated with the free PC-tool Protocol Developer and it is optimally adapted to the final product and requirements of the MPI-Master. No changes have to be made in the final product's firmware.
Application
Deutschmann UNIGATE® MPI is ideal for the use with terminal-units that do not have their own MPI-interface. The standard DIN-rail version features the protection type IP24.
Scope of functions
The Deutschmann UNIGATE® Gateway uses the complete data capacity of MPI, that is 240 byte and supports all speeds up to a maximum of 12 Mbit/s. The complete performance range of a MPI Slave is supported by UNIGATE®. For the Profibus-connection a 9-pole D-SUB connector is provided, the connection of the serial side is made through screw-plug-connector. The Profibus ID can either be set by means of the integrated rotary coding switch, through the Profibus itself or the Script. A large number of diagnosis LEDs signal the state of the device on the Profibus-side as well as on the serial side.
The special advantage of the UNIGATE® CL-series is the Script-ability. Thus any changes in the firmware of the terminal-unit are not necessary. Due to the Script the user has all liberties and possibility, from a simple transparent data transfer over the generation of complex protocols up to editing data.

With Deutschmann UNIGATE® CL-modules you bring existing components (also older devices) into modern networks. As device manufacturer you save the development of the interface based on the corresponding Fieldbus or Ethernet. Due to the continuity of the Deutschmann UNIGATE® CL-series Scripts that have been generated once can be used practically without changes for other types of the UNIGATE® CL-series based on other Fieldbuses and Ethernet. The firmware adaptation of your own terminal-units becomes unnecessary.
